Collins, Masel Carner

Masel Carner Collins, 94, of Pearisburg, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2023. She was born December 16, 1929 in Bland, Virginia, he daughter of the late Oakie & Grace Carner.

Masel was church oriented, taught Sunday school and enjoyed singing hymns. She attended many churches along the way. She was fun loving and enjoyed making life fun for everyone she met. She felt like everyone should be included and enjoyed organizing fun games to be enjoyed by all in attendance. She was crafty and had her own style. She loved home remodeling and changing curtains and did them both regularly.

Masel loved her family and enjoyed having them together. She planned family outings and camping trips. She was the best hind catcher ever! She and her first husband John would pitch and catch for both teams and made sure everyone had a chance to hit before moving to the next batter.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and example for all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Masel was preceded in death by her parents, Oakie James & Grace Clara Orey Carner, both husbands, John Smith Johnson and Eugene (“Jim”) Mose Collins, Jr., her sons-in-law, Clarence Sink and Lee Conner, her brothers, Calvin Carner and Emory Carner and her sisters, Lena Albert and Evelyn Pyles.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Brenda Sink and Freda Conner; her son & daughter-in-law, Douglas & Sandra Johnson; her sister-in-law, Mary Havens; her grandchildren, Tim Sink, Becky & Duane Martin, Derek & Tracy Conner, John & Pam Conner, Jessica Johnson and Dustin Johnson; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; and many beloved nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Pastor Duane Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.
