Edith Bell Williams, a beacon of love and warmth to all those who knew her, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, in Pembroke, VA. Born on September 18, 1931, in Virginia, Edith lived a life filled with love, devotion, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Edith was the loving daughter of Vestie Aliff and Nellie Merrix, both of whom preceded her in death. Despite the loss of her parents, Edith carried their teachings and values throughout her life, always demonstrating the importance of family, love, and respect for others.
On November 12, 1954, Edith married John Lewis Williams, who became her beloved husband these 69 years. Their love story was one of shared dreams, mutual respect, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a beautiful family, a testament to their love and dedication.
Edith’s legacy continues through her children, son Chris Williams (Lisa) of Pembroke, and daughter Terri Wilburn (Kevin Collins) of Dublin, Virginia. As a mother, Edith was a pillar of strength and a source of unconditional love. Her wisdom and guidance shaped the lives of her children, instilling in them the values of kindness, compassion, and integrity.
Edith’s joy was magnified with the birth of her grandson, Brandon Williams, and his wife Alyssa. She also cherished the relationship with her step-grandson, Reed Robertson. Her great-grandson, Braxton Lee Williams, brought an extra spark of delight into her life. Edith’s love for her grandchildren was immeasurable, and she took immense pride in their achievements and individual growth.
Edith was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering love. She was a mentor, a guide, and a friend to many. Her warm smile and nurturing nature made everyone around her feel loved and cherished. Edith’s life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of the human spirit, and the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many.
Throughout her life, Edith was an active member of her community. Her work was primarily focused on her family, ensuring her loved ones were always surrounded by love, comfort, and support. Edith’s dedication to her family and her community was a reflection of her incredible spirit and her unwavering commitment to making a difference.
The family wish to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care during her illness. All of the kindness and grace shown to the family fills their hearts as comfort was found in their greatest times of needs, they especially want to recognize Connie and Teresa from the Hospice team as they were truly gifts. In addition, the family wish to thank special friends and caregivers, Jessica Simmons, Leona Merrix, and Becky Johnson; for the love that was poured out to Edith this past year.
The family will receive friends in a time of visitation at Kendall Funeral Home on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM where the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department will serve as Pall Bearers. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Memorial Gardens in Pearisburg, VA where she will be laid to rest.
