Freeman, Betty Francis

Betty Jane Francis Freeman, 84, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Dublin, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30th, 2023. She was born in Peterstown, WV, on April 22, 1939, to Orice Everett Francis and Eunice Ganoe Francis.

She graduated from Peterstown High School and Bluefield Business College, Bluefield, WV. Betty retired in 1999 from Appalachian Power Company, Glen Lyn Plant, after over 41 years of service. She was a member of Dublin Baptist Church.

She is survived by her beloved nephew, William Christopher Kidd, III, and his wife, Mary Lynn Kidd of Raleigh, NC. Great Nieces, Mary Francis Kidd (fiancé James B. Currin, Jr.) and Sydney James Kidd, whom she cherished and adored. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Farley Francis; niece, Kathryn Francis Ferguson (Rick); nephew, Michael Alan Francis (Julie); great nephew, Tyler Francis; great niece, Betsy Ferguson Mullins (Scott); great nephew, Jacob Ferguson; four great-great nieces, and one great-great nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Earl Sydney Freeman; brother, Alvin Thomas Francis; sister and best friend, Bonnie Francis Kidd Patterson; and infant sister, Connie Jean Francis.

Betty was devoted to her family, who affectionately called her Aunt Betty. She cherished many lifelong friendships, and she will be remembered for her kindness and generosity.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV. Burial will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Rich Creek, VA. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
