Stafford, Edith Jane
Edith Jane Stafford, passed away peacefully at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, on October 7, 2023. Born in Virginia on September 26, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Emory and Juanita Turpin Stafford. She lived a full and vibrant life, touching the lives of many.
Edith was a pillar of strength and the beacon of her family. She was the proud mother of five children: Barry Spicer of Texas, Gary Spicer of Pearisburg, Larry Spicer and his wife Carrie of Maybrook, Terry Spicer of Texas, and her daughter, Donna Owens and her husband Anthony of Pearisburg. In addition to her children, she was blessed with ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and she was always seen as the glue that held them together.
She was a beloved sister to Emory Stafford and his wife Jean of Gainesville, VA. Edith was predeceased by her parents, Emory Stafford and Juanita Turpin Stafford; her sisters, Shirley Meredith and Linda Spicer, and her step-father, Richard Saulnier. She was also predeceased by her brother, Jimmy Don Stafford, her great-granddaughter, Emily Kay Donaldson; and the father of her children, Arnold Lee Spicer. Despite these losses, Edith’s spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to live her life with grace and resilience.
Edith was a social butterfly who enjoyed going out and dining with her best friend, Tiny Martin, and her many friends at Old Orchard Place, who she considered as her extended family. Her presence brought joy to those around her. She loved playing board games, which became a cherished tradition at social events.
Edith’s life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched and the love she shared. Edith was a woman of substance, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
There will be a funeral service conducted on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. Services will conclude at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA where she will be laid to rest. The family will have a time of visitation on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
