Simpkins, Nedica Johnson
Nedica Doris Johnson Simpkins, affectionately known as “Sissy,” passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, in Blacksburg, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 10, 1955, in Giles County, Virginia, she was a loved member of her community.
Sissy was the cherished daughter of the late Samuel Lewis Johnson and Maudie Pyles Johnson. She was the loving wife of the late Roger Dale Simpkins and a devoted mother to her son, Roger Dale Simpkins II and his wife, Leslie Williams Simpkins. Sissy’s joy was magnified by her grandchildren, Nathan and Nick Simpkins, who held a special place in her heart. She was a proud and caring sister to Jerry Johnson and his wife Kay, William “Butch” Johnson, Earl Johnson and his wife Judy, Allen Johnson, Earthel Sue Middleton, Mary Lee Jones, and Ada French. Predeceased by her siblings Audrey Martin and Nickie Johnson, her memory will be cherished by them and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Sissy was a woman of faith, regularly attending Pearisburg Church of God. Her spiritual life was an integral part of her identity, providing her with strength and resilience throughout her life, including during her most recent battle with cancer. She was a beacon of courage, inspiring those around her with her perseverance.
In her leisure time, Sissy was an avid outdoors enthusiast. She found peace and happiness in the simplicity of nature, often embarking in fishing and hunting. These activities brought her much joy and serenity, allowing her to connect with the natural world in a profound way.
Children brought immense joy to Sissy. She had a unique ability to connect with young ones, and her face would light up at their innocent laughter and playful antics. This was most evident in the special bond she shared with her grandchildren, Nathan and Nick Simpkins. Their presence in her life was a source of immeasurable happiness and pride.
Sissy’s life was marked by the love and respect she received from her special friends, Monte Eppling and Kathy Bowles, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Their friendship was a testament to Sissy’s warm and welcoming nature, her ability to form strong bonds, and her unwavering loyalty.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Funeral services will conclude in the Simpkins Cemetery in Eggleston, VA. The family will have a time of visitation with friends on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home.
