Allison, Richard Carrington

Richard Carrington (Dick) Allison, 76, of Pulaski, died Friday afternoon, July 15, 2007, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, from injuries received in an accident on his farm in Giles County this past Tuesday.

Dick was the son of the late William Ray and Virginia Dare Wright Allison and was born in Barren Springs on November 2, 1930. He was also preceded by his wife, Julia Sluss (Ann) Allison. He joined the Virginia State Police, as a Trooper, on July 16, 1953, where he was stationed in Grundy, Va., later transferring to Pulaski where he worked until his retirement on January 1, 1986.

On December 18, 2006, Richard C. Allison was presented with his 50 year certificate from the Grand Lodge of Virginia. Brother Allison received his Masonic degrees and was raised a Master Mason on September 15, 1956, at Shady Valley Masonic Lodge No. 17 A.F. & A.M. in Grundy, Va. He affiliated with Pythagoras Lodge No. 239 A.F. & A.M. in Pulaski, Va., on September 16, 1963, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1967, 1988 and 1989.

He served as District Deputy Grand Master for the 40th Masonic District in 1967 and Grand Junior Steward for the Grand Lodge of Virginia A.F. & A.M., in 1972, under most worshipful Wilmer (Bill) Thomas Trevillian, Grand Master. Brother Allison has been active in the Masonary and Masonic bodies, such as serving as High Priest of Pulaski Royal Arch Chapter No. 39, District Deputy Grand High Priest for the 9th Capitular District, member of the Blacksburg Commanadary, Kazim Shrine, as well as the Wilmer Thomas Trevillian Council No. 190 Allied Masonic Degrees.

Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Allison Waller; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Craig and Margaret Allison; two grandchildren, Larkin and Riley Allison and a special friend and companion, Louise Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007, from the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Murphy and the Rev. John Grimm officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, from Stevens Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
