McCoy, Mary Stone

Mary Stone McCoy, 80, of Blacksburg, passed away June 14, 2007. She was born in Yellow Sulphur Spring, Va. on October 5, 1926 and was the youngest of nine children.

Mary retired from the Virginia Tech Department of Plant Pathology and Physiology. Prior to her illness, she was a loyal and faithful member of Blacksburg Christian Church, sang in the choir for many years and was a member of the Golden Hokie Club.

Those preceding Mary in death were her parents, William H. and Tillie Oliver Stone; her loving husband of 54 years, Randolph D. McCoy, Jr. (R.D.); brothers, W.T. Stone, Robert H. Stone, Oliver Stone (Boyd); and sisters, Violet Stone, Margaret S. Grogg and Allie S. Martin.

Mary is survived by her caring sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Debi McCoy of Blacksburg and Jeff McCoy of Christiansburg; her two adoring grandchildren and spouse, Zach McCoy, Jena McCoy-Lovern and her husband, Aaron Lovern, all of Blacksburg; sisters, Nell S. Huffman of Pearisburg, Helen S. Reid of Blacksburg; a sister in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn Joanne and Morris Witten of Bland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to Phyllis Selfe and Sybil Bowie, her caregivers, Aida Farmer, Dr. Robert Stockburger, and Carilion New River Valley Hospice. A very special thank you to the Rev. Jerry Dowdy and the congregation of Belmont Christian Church and the Rev. Roger Henderson and the First Christian Church, Newport for all their love and support during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 18, 2007 at 3 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry L. Dowdy, Pastor, Belmont Christian Church, presiding. Entombment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Christiansburg.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at McCoy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress St., NE, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or Blacksburg Fire Department, 2700 Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060 in memory of R.D. and Mary McCoy.
