Bell Jr., George Hamilton

George Hamilton Bell, Jr., 55, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away June 11, 2007. He will be remembered as the friendly employee of Au Bon Pain, an assistant professor/aquatics director at Virginia Tech, an investment advisor, politician and aviator.

While campaigning for the Congressional nomination, he suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1992. Through his discipline and determination which had earned him distinction as an All-American athlete, George relearned many skills to enjoy his hobbies, his alma mater, Wake Forest University and especially his family and friends. He was a man of great faith, strength, courage, and enthusiasm, striving to put a smile on everyone’s face.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; and children, Nancy and Jim; mother, Betty; and sisters, Heidi and Carolyn.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a contribution to the American Cancer Society in George’s memory. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
