Morris, Benny Rhea

Benny Morris, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side in his home in Pembroke, Virginia on November 5, 2023. Born on August 12, 1946, in Virginia, to the late John and Elva Farmer Morris, Benny lived a life marked by service, dedication, and a love for the great outdoors.

Benny was known for his strong work ethic, which was evident in his distinguished service in the U.S. Navy. His commitment to his country earned him the National Defense Service Medal, an honor he wore with great pride. After his military service, Benny continued to contribute to his community through his work as a Building and Equipment Maintenance supervisor with Verizon. His colleagues remember him as a team player, always willing to lend a hand.

Benny’s interests were as varied and vibrant as his personality. He was a gifted musician who could play many instruments, and his love for music brought joy to all who knew him. Benny was also an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and would often take long rides through the mountains to appreciate nature’s beauty. A sports enthusiast, Benny loved watching football and baseball games, sharing his passion with his children and grandchildren. Benny was also a skilled technician who enjoyed working on CB radios. His ability to fix almost anything was a testament to his patience and dedication, qualities that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Benny leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. His son, Randy Morris (Shelley Atkins) of Christiansburg, VA, and his daughter, Deana Garcia (Moises) of Pembroke; and his daughters by heart, Amy Reynolds and Susan McDaniel, all of whom will miss him. Benny also leaves behind his sisters, Loretta Pifer of Dublin, VA, Barbara Hall of Snowville, VA, and Norma McPeak (Tom) of Dublin, VA.

Benny was a devoted grandfather to Mikaela Blankenship, Caleb Williams, Aidan Williams, Mia Garcia, and Naomi Garcia. His grandchildren by heart, Josh McDaniel, Matthew McDaniel, Niki Reynolds, and Ben Reynolds, will remember their grandfather’s laughter and the life lessons he taught them.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents, John Morris and Elva Geneva Farmer Morris, his loving wife, Linda Carol Morris, and his siblings, John Morris II, Hensel Morris, William Morgan Morris, Areta Agee, Phillip W. Morris, and Alethia “Gaynell” Ratcliffe.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his part-time caregiver, Crystal Foster-Coleman; Gentiva Hospice; Centerwell Home Health; his special nurse, Brittney Parcell; a special thank you to Giles Community Hospital; especially Amy Gray, his nurse practitioner who provided a Christmas Tree in his home on Monday, November 6, 2023, so he could see a Christmas tree one more time as it was one of his last wishes. The showers of love shown to the family has truly filled their hearts.

The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel.
