Howell, Helen Louise Bailey
Helen Louise Bailey Howell, of 2821 Grandview Avenue, Bluefield, W.Va., and also of her vacation home at Claytor Lake, passed away on Wednesday May 23, 2007 at Phillips Personal Home Care after a hard fought battle with brain cancer.
She was reunited with her husband Charlie, who passed away on May 7th of this year. She was born in Princeton, W.Va. and was the daughter of the late Kenneth N. Bailey and Laura Pennington Bailey. Mrs. Howell had been a resident of Bluefield for most of her life and graduated from Beaver High School. She was a Supervisor at West Virginia Job Services and retired in 1984. She was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church in Bluefield and was also a member of the Mercer County Humane Society. She was crazy about animals and she loved all of her dogs and cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Edward Howell; one brother, Kenneth C. Bailey; and five uncles, Cyrus, Harry, Cecil, Ralph and Don Pennington. Survivors include her son Danny E. Howell of Bluefield; her former daughter-in-law, Connie Howell of Green Valley; one stepgrandson, Eric Baugh of Green Valley; an aunt, Beulah Pennington of Hinton, W.Va.; a special niece, Ann Thomas and her husband Bill of Front Royal, Va.; several cousins, and a close friend, Ramona Woodson of Bluefield, W.Va.; and all of the friends and neighbors on Grandview Avenue and Springdale Avenue; especially Jeane and Judy Cookes.
Funeral services for Mrs. Howell will be conducted on Saturday May 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Woodson officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, May 25, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ted Baker, Jack Bourne, Gordon Corell, Eric Baugh, Sonny Matthews and Joe Bailey. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Vernon Roop. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Edgemont Baptist Church, 2507 Jefferson Drive, Bluefield, W.Va. 24701; or to Community Hospices of America, P.O.
