Pratt, Margaret D.
Margaret D. Pratt (Maggie), 80, passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Maggie was born in Birmingham, England, and grew up in the Warwickshire village of Warton, which is where she met her future husband.
They were married in July 1964. She is survived by husband Tim, son Anthony (Brett), daughters Liz and Suzy (Carl), and Suzy’s three children, Aaron, Jason, and Lauren.
Maggie qualified as a physical therapist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital School of Physiotherapy in Birmingham, and subsequently earned a teaching diploma there. She taught at the Physiotherapy School before moving to the United States with her family in 1981. She qualified as a licensed physical therapist in Virginia in 1983 and worked in home health and rehab settings until retiring in 2012.
Maggie loved her family, her patients, her dogs and horses, and flowers. She was frequently sought out by friends for her extensive knowledge of human anatomy and physiology and was especially empathetic with those who were in pain. Her skill in rehabilitation enabled many of her patients to recover from broken hips and strokes, as well as accidents and injuries.
Maggie liked to travel and frequently returned to visit her family in England. She also traveled to many counties in Europe and in later years enjoyed vacations in Kauai, HI, for fourteen years. She was an excellent cook and passed those skills on to her children.
At Maggie’s request, funeral arrangements were private. Please consider making a donation in her memory to one of her favorite charities: World Wildlife Fund or Feeding Southwest Virginia.
