Daniel “Dan” Wesley DeVilbiss Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia, passed to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Dan was a loving friend, neighbor, brother and uncle. He loved antiquing with his friends and curated a quality collection of objects d’art. Dan will be remembered for his artistic talents and tastes and his commitment to helping others.

Dan completed his undergraduate education at James Madison University, received his master’s degree from Radford University, and earned his Doctoral Ed.D. from Virginia Tech. He was a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, and has twice been certified as an Employee Assistance Professional. In his career, he specialized in thanatology, marriage counseling, and anxiety and depressive disorders. Dan taught graduate student level courses at several local universities.

Dan was born in Radford, Va., on June 14, 1955, to his parents, Wesley and Betty DeVilbiss. He is survived by his sister, Deborah Tipton, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Betty and by his sister, Nancy Wilson.

He wanted to express his gratitude to special friends, Larry Rhodes and Jay Kilby, who were always there to assist with his quality of life. He would also like to thank his neighbors, Brad Beck, Cory Dorathy, Jay Evans, Lexi and Kyle, and Good Samaritan Hospice.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Dan at Oakey’s South Chapel on Saturday, November 12, 2022. The visitation will begin at 11 a.m. immediately followed by the funeral ceremony at 12 noon. The family invites friends to join them for lunch after the ceremony at a location to be determined.
