Kenneth Edward Thompson, 81, of Christiansburg, passed away surrounded by his family on May 15, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry “Ed” Thompson and Stina Thompson; and brother, Lawrence “Danny” Thompson.

Kenneth is survived by his sisters, Shirley Woolwine and Rita Roseberry; wife, Kim Stafford Thompson; children, Denise Thompson Reed (Bobby), Vanessa Thompson Moore (David), Naomi Thompson Lagan (Lee), Drew Armstrong; step-children, Josh Wolfe and Victoria Thorne (Matt); grandchildren, Derick Linkous, Zachary Moore, Ashley, Andrew, Conner, Rebekah, and Lara Lagan; as well as two precious great-grandsons.

Kenneth served the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963 on the USS Forrestal and spent a lot of time in the Mediterranean. He worked for Corning for almost 50 years. He also made multiple trips to China for Corning after his “retirement” and provided training at the plant to pass on his knowledge.

Kenneth loved taking road trips and traveling. His preference was to stay no more than 3-4 days in any given location. He would get in the car and start driving and visit friends and family – he liked to keep moving. One of his favorite things to do was tinkering on old cars in his garage.

Dad would want you to be comfortable and wear jeans to the services – he did not focus on formalities and wants us to celebrate his life. We also encourage you to share memories during the Service.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 12-2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, with Eric Bennett officiating.
