Dickenson, Virginia Otey

amem_daffodils.jpgVirginia Anne Otey Dickenson, 79, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007. She was born in Crumpler, West Virginia, to the late Clyde Bedford and Gladys Rees Otey.

She was also a graduate of Westhampton College and taught school for a short time prior to starting her family. She was a longtime member of Grove United Methodist Church where over the years she taught Sunday School and served on several committees. She helped with PTA and was a leader in the Girl Scout program. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Dickenson, Jr. after 57 years of marriage.

She is survived by her four children, James D. Dickenson and his wife Laurie of Fairview, Tenn., Anne Bohon and her husband Sy, Jane Norton and her husband Mike, Susan Wenk and her husband Monty, all of Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren, Drew and Dave Dickenson, Fairview, Tenn., John Michael and Taylor Bohon, Emily and Andy Norton, and Grace and Rees Wenk, all of Roanoke, Va.

The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Michael Barry and staff as well as Carilion Home Health Care for their kind loving care to our mother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Worringham officiating. A brief graveside service will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Grove United Methodist Church, 1020 Tyler Avenue, Radford, Va. 24141. The Dickenson Family is in the care of DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.
