Hoy, Fay Snider

Fay Snider Hoy, 96, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, May 6, 2007. She was born and grew up in Montgomery County, Va., the daughter of Cecil and Florence Shaver Snider.

Her husband, William L. “Bill” Hoy, as well as her parents, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Willett Williams, Blacksburg; two grandsons, Roger T. Williams, Thailand, and David L. Williams, San Marcos, Texas.

Mrs. Hoy graduated from Radford State Teachers College (now Radford University) with graduate work at V.P.I. & S.U. She taught Home Economics for several years in Floyd and Montgomery County Public Schools, after which she was employed by the Farm Security Administration as Home Management Supervisor in Amherst and Appomattox Counties. Other employment included being a Chemist at R.A.A.P. during World War II and later as a hospital dietician in Radford, Va.

She was a life-long Methodist and a member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church since 1961. She was very active in the Methodist Church, being the first woman to serve as a Trustee at Blacksburg United Methodist Church. She was a Circle leader for several years, as well as Treasurer and program leader and Chairman of the Parsonage Committee until it was sold.

When she and her husband moved to Blacksburg from Bowling Green, Va., they founded and operated the Hoy Funeral Home until their retirement. Mrs. Hoy was a member of the Alleghany Chapter N. S. D. A. R., The Dr. Harvey Black Chapter, and past president of U. D. C., Home Economists in Home and Community, Creative Homemakers, and a life member of A. A. R. P. She will be remembered for judging at local fairs and volunteer work as well as being a contributor to many charities.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reggie Tuck and the Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg.

Mrs. Hoy loved flowers but a memorial to Blacksburg United Methodist Church Landscaping Fund, P.O. Box 931, Blacksburg, Va. 24063, or to a favorite charity would be most acceptable. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
