Mitchell “Mitch” Anthony Thompson, 71, of Pearisburg, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mitch was born on September 16, 1950, in Glen Lyn, VA and was a son of the late Thomas Thurman Thompson and Emma Justine Law Thompson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Rodney Thompson.

Mitch was a 1968 graduate of Narrows High School. He worked for Boiler Makers Local Union #45 for many years. He then bought and operated the Wilburn Valley Grocery and the Night Crawler Express for over 30 years. Mitch loved the company of his family and friends and enjoyed visiting with people who came by the store. He was an avid gardener, who enjoyed sharing his crops with others. Mitch loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly Jo Robertson Thompson of Pearisburg, one son, Matthew Aaron Thompson of Pearisburg, one daughter, Ashley Thompson McKenzie (John Adam) of Peterstown, WV, one grandson, John Anthony McKenzie, two sisters, Tressia T. Lambert (C.T.) of Rich Creek and Wanda T. Testerman (Dale) of Siler City, NC, one sister-in-law, Debra Strouth Thompson of Hopewell, and one brother-in-law Charles G. Robertson of Narrows.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 11 am at the Givens – Riffe Funeral Chapel in Narrows with Charles Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 – 8 pm.
