Austin, Olive Vest
Olive Vest Austin, 100, of Copper Hill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ercil C. Austin, her son, Ercil Wayne Austin, her parents, Peter and Dosha Vest, her brother, Elliott Vest, her daughter-in-law, Louise Austin, and her son-in-law, William Whitlock.
Olive loved to quilt and sew. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club for many years. She loved flowers and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was always giving as gifts the things she created. Through the years, she and her husband attended and enjoyed services at Primitive Baptist Churches, and had many meals in their home for the congregation.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Annabelle Austin, Roanoke; one daughter, Vestal Whitlock and special friend, Ralph Vest, Floyd; two sisters, Ora V. King, Atlanta, Ga., Georgianna Young, Roanoke; one daughter-in-law, Linda Austin Rosenbloom; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a special niece, Mary Clark.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007 at Salem (Head of the River) Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Hale Terry and Elder Allen Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home on Thursday after 2 p.m. where the family will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family wishes to thank members of Good Samaritan Hospice and Dr. Susan Osborne and the staff of Skyline Manor Nursing Home for all of the special care given to her. Special thanks for all of the cards and well wishes especially Elder Hale Terry and wife, Glenna Terry.
