fields charles edwardCharles Edward Fields, 71, of Pembroke, departed this life Wednesday morning, January 8, 2014 at Lewis-Gale Pulaski Hospital in Pulaski. Born at North Holston in Smyth Co. on June 10, 1942, he was a son of Pearl Vanhoozier Fields of Pembroke and the late Waverly “Dooley” Fields. He had been baptized and attended Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, was a 1961 graduate of Pembroke High School, had worked at Foote Mineral Lime Plant in Kimballton and was retired from VPI Air Quality Control Dept. He was preceded in death by his father, his brothers James E. “Buck” Fields, Donnie Ray Fields, and Freddie Fields; and his sisters, Ann “Bootie” Fields and Betty Jo Fields. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Alice Pearl Vanhoozier Fields of Pembroke; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl F. and H C Price of Pembroke; his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Trena J. Fields of Radford; his grandchildren, Anthony Price of Christiansburg, Stephen and Emma Fields of Radford; his special care giver and the mother of his children, Charlotte Fields; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Juanita Fields of Radford, Danny and Krissie Fields of Pembroke; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dina and Bob Talbert of Rio Vista, Calif., Kathy and Melvin Snidow of Pembroke, Va. and Linda Bare of Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Dr. Kolodney, Dr. Ojoma, special nurses Amanda Akers and Savannah Mabry and the staff at Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg.
