grant robert mRobert M. Grant, 42, of Blacksburg, passed away unexpectedly to his eternal home on Monday, December 30, 2013. Rob was a son, brother, buddy, helper, and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was employed as an Applications Analysis, in the Information Technology Department at Virginia Tech for over 15 years. Rob’s passions were deep. He made it his priority to help others and serve the Blacksburg community as he volunteered for the Blacksburg Rescue Squad for most of his time here. Rob enjoyed geocaching, gaming, hiking, and helping others with his vast computer knowledge. Rob is survived by his mother, Jeanne Grant Ward; and stepfather, Sam; his grandmother, Clarice Bell; his uncle, Robert L. Bell; his aunt, Joannie Honard; his sister, Leslie Woodson; brother, Benjamin L. Grant; niece, Katelyn; and nephew, Jacob; and special friend, Emily Mardakis. Rob leaves to cherish his memory Sarah Worley, his girl, his best friend and forever soul mate; along with their two dogs, Zoe and Brinkley. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Rob will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Tommy McDearis and John Wertz officiating.
