Mathis, David Lee

David Lee Mathis, age 69, of Christiansburg, VA died peacefully at home after battling cancer. He was born in Oakland, CA on July 6, 1944 to the late A.G. and Marjorie Mathis from Escalon, CA. He was proud to be a Veteran and served in the Army for two years during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Janet Bugg Mathis, sons, Matthew and wife Trica Mathis, of Manteca, CA, Brooks Mathis and girlfriend Susan Jones of Vancouver, WA, stepson, Quinton and wife Brandy Mathis, grandson, Raylan, granddaughter, Cassidy Self of Christiansburg, and sister Ina Mathis of Escalon, CA. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Onita Bugg, brother-in-law, Robert Bugg, Jr. and his daughter Deseray, sister-in-law, Susie Roop and her daughter Amanda, all of Pilot, sister-in-law, Vicky and husband Phil Gillespie and their daughter, Laura Beth, all of Christiansburg. The family would like to thank Dr. Goldschmidt, Delores, Cindy, Don, and the rest of the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center in Christiansburg, for the care David received there. Also thanks to the Gentiva and Good Samaritan Hospice staff for the care they provided. Services will be held in California at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:00 pm Sunday evening, December 1, 2013, at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
