Honeycutt, John Wyatt

John Wyatt Honeycutt, 75, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Heritage Hall.  He was born in Rockwell, NC on September 25, 1938 to the late Thomas and Pearl Wyatt Honeycutt.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Kenneth Honeycutt; sisters, Mae Honeycutt, Frances Park, Betty Jean Honeycutt.  Mr. Honeycutt was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Harrisonburg Baptist Church and Goshen Baptist Church.  He also taught Sunday School, Bible Study and was very active at Blacksburg Baptist Church.  He retired from Spotsylvania County Public Schools where he served as Director of Special Education.  He was one of the founders of Rivendale Home for Boys, Project Concern, and was on the Board of Directors of Huckleberry House, Harrisonburg, VA.  He  was selected as an Outstanding Young Man  of Virginia in 1971 by the Virginia Jaycees.  In 1982, the Virginia Department of Education Office of Special Education cited Mr. Honeycutt as one of Virginia’s Outstanding Special Educators.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Honeycutt of Blacksburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd Honeycutt of Bridgewater, Kenny and Matilda Honeycutt of Harrisonburg, John, Jr. and Jane Honeycutt of Blacksburg; sisters, Helen Brown of Harrisonburg, Lillie Ruth Isenhour, Misenheimer, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Robbie and Lennett Honeycutt of Winston Salem, NC; special niece, Bonnie Smith and husband, George of Rockwell, NC; grandchildren, Harlan and Dustin Honeycutt, Kate and Caroline Honeycutt; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 11:00 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Tommy McDearis, Todd Millsaps and Don McKinney officiating.  Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Baptist Church, Land of Promise Fund, 550 N. Main St., Blacksburg, VA 24060. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, VA.
