STEVENS, Gladys Pearl Hale

Gladys Pearl Hale Stevens, of Blacksburg, was born on February 16, 1911, in Liberal, Missouri, the daughter of G. Cleve and Bertha Hale.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Harry C. Hale, Maurice B. Hale, and Glenn C. Hale. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold William Stevens.

A sister, Mildred Diggs, of Lamar, Missouri, and a sister-in-law, Lois Hale, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., survive her. She is also survived by her daughter, LaVina Stevens Tyndall, and her son-in-law, Glenn Tyndall of Blacksburg, Va; one granddaughter, Cheryl Tyndall Moore and her husband, Stephen of South Riding, Va.; one grandson, Bradley Glenn Tyndall and his wife, Sara Quillin Tyndall of South Riding, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Madden Moore, Maeleigh Moore, and Macy Tyndall; and nieces, Mary Ellen VanGilder, Lamar, Mo., Linda Stevens, Bernice, Okla., Barbara Frank, Bonner Springs, Kan., Dorris Garfield, Lamar, Mo.; a nephew, Steve Diggs, Jr., Lamar, Mo., and their families.

She graduated from Liberal High School and attended Pittsburgh State University. She and her husband owned Lamar Hardware Store, where she also did interior decorating. Upon retirement from the administrative office at Old Salem in Winston-Salem, N.C., she moved to Blacksburg in 1981. Having moved back to Missouri in 1992, she returned to Blacksburg in 2001.

In her 95 years, she was a source of joy and encouragement, lifting the spirits of all who knew her. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church wherever she lived, most recently in Blacksburg.

A Service of Resurrection will be held at Blacksburg United Methodist Church on Friday, February 10, 2006 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Regional D. Tuck officiating. Graveside services will be in Lamar, Missouri at Oakton Cemetery on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Larry E. Garfield officiating.
