Slusher, Cleve J.
Cleve J. Slusher, 84, of Christiansburg, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013. Cleve was the son of Clevie D. Slusher and Polly A. Smith and was raised in the Indian Valley area of Floyd Virginia. He served in the Air Force in the 527th Fighter-Bomber Wing as an F-84 Thunderjet crew chief and was honorably discharged in May 1954. Following his service, he attended Virginia Tech, where he graduated with a BS in Agricultural Economics in June 1958. Cleve received the very first private pesticide applicator permit given by the State of Virginia. As an employee of the state, he worked as a feed and fertilizer inspector and retired with 34 years of service. Cleve was married to Ruby Dowdy in 1959, who passed away in 2004. He enjoyed working with the many perennial plants in his yard and was a faithful Hokie Football fan. Cleve is survived by four nieces and two nephews, Brenda Hubbard, Elizabeth Hubbard, Charlotte Hubbard, Linda Hubbard, David Mitchem, and Ray Sutphin. The family would like to thank the staff of both Wheatland Hills and Good Samaritan Hospice for their outstanding care of Cleve. Visitation will be held at McCoy Funeral Home on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 12:30p.m., followed by a graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.
