Turman, Joan Lester

Joan Lester (Joanie) Turman, 60, of Christiansburg, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Frances Lester; and her grandmother, Ora Higgs. She is survived by her dad, Harold Lee Lester; sisters, Carolyn Akers and husband, Don, and Kathy Thompson and husband, Steve; her daughter, Lori McGuire and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Joshua and Haley McGuire; nephews, Anthony Gennosa and wife, Katie, and Bubby Akers; niece, Tracy Trump and husband, Ricky; a special great-nephew, Tayt Trump; life companion, David Simmons; special friends, Dora O’Farrell, Carolyn Covington, and Cathy DeHart; all of her Moog family, whom she dearly loved and who loved her just as much; as well as other extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Griswold Home Care and Lewis-Gale Salem for their loving care of Joanie. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bobby Lorton officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.
