Crumbley, Helen Louise Boothe

memorialHelen Boothe Crumbley, of Pulaski, died peacefully at the age of 95, on Saturday, August 10, 2013, in her home. The daughter of Desmond Fisher Boothe and Harry Horton Boothe, Helen grew up in Pulaski County, where she began many wonderful friendships that she maintained throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her younger brother, Jack Boothe; and her husband of 62 years, Jesse Charles Crumbley Jr.

After graduating from Pulaski High School, where she excelled at basketball and having fun, Helen attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. During World War II she met and married Charlie Crumbley and they lived in locations around the United States while he served as an Army officer. After the war, they settled in Pulaski. While busy taking care of her two children, Helen served for several years as a Red Cross volunteer. She also joined friends in pursuits including the garden club, bridge club, and the book club. After her children were grown, she worked for a number of years as a clerk for the Pulaski County General District Court. Helen also was a successful local businesswoman and attended to several real estate holdings in Pulaski. Most of all, she was a marvelous friend to many people she knew from childhood and to countless others she came to know along the way. Everyone, young and not-so-young, who knew Helen, loved her and will miss her humor and kindness. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Boothe Crumbley; her son, Jesse C. Crumbley III and his wife, Laura; her grandson, Boothe Bullock Crumbley and his wife, Molly; her granddaughter, Margaret C. Cable and her husband, Keith; and her great-grandchildren, Aidan and Morrilou Cable. The family thanks Melinda Mabe, whose expert care as a full-time nurse, enabled Helen to remain in her beloved home during the last months of her life.
