Woods, Gloria Dean Janney
Gloria Dean Janney Woods, 65, of Spotsylvania, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. She was born in Giles County on November 4, 1947, and was the daughter of the late David Isaac and Mary Illene Spicer Janney. A 1965 graduate of Narrows High School, Gloria was a retired employee of the District of Columbia city government, where she served as a human resources manager with 34 years of service.
She was a faithful member of Promised Land Praise and Worship in Fredericksburg. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband, David Lee Woods (married November 19, 1966) and the only child born to both David and Gloria, Jessica Lee (Woods) (Lewis) Johnson; and all five grandchildren Jessica brought to her life, Michael Patrick Lewis, Edward Scott Johnson, Megan Michelle Johnson, Leigha Marie Johnson and Lisa Danielle Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Jadalyn Marie Johnson; a son-in-law, Robert Lee Johnson Jr.; former son-in-law, Ronald Michael Lewis; one brother, Jerry Eltrue Janney and wife, Dreama; two sisters, Barbara Ellen Snidow and her husband, James, Dinah Kay Pettrey and her husband, Gary; a mother-in-law, Irene Patrick Woods; two brothers-in-law, Larry Woods and wife, Margaret and Ray Woods and wife, Donna; four nieces; ten nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and Gloria’s dearest friend Denise Anyabuike. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at Fairview Cemetery in Narrows with the Rev. Charles Olivieri officiating.
