thompson myrtle richardsMyrtle Irene Richards Thompson, 86, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, with her family by her side. She was born on April 30, 1927, to the late John Sherman and Della Richardson Richards. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Insley Thompson Sr.; brothers, Roy and James Richards; sister, Frances Smith; son-in-law, Gary Hamrick; and great-granddaughter, Kathryn Chrystiline Swires.

Left to cherish her memory are her seven children; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Billy Miller, Doris and David Kirkner, all of Pilot, Donna Hamrick and Mike Catron, of Talcott, W.Va., Debra and Richard Abate, Diane and Larry Duncan, all of Christiansburg; sons and daughter-in-law, Dewey Insley Jr. (Tommy) and Ruby Thompson, of Concord, N.C., and John “Port” Thompson, of Christiansburg. Nanny “T” is survived by six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary “Pie” Epperly, Betty and Troy Shelor; sister-in-law, Ida Thompson; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be on Friday, August 2, 2013, at noon at the Bible Holiness Church, South Franklin Street, Christiansburg, with Pastor Dwayne Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
