Thompson, Leon Byrd

Leon Byrd Thompson, 73, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2013, from his home. Born on April 21, 1940 to the late Gilmer and Gertrude Thompson in Lashmeet, W.Va., he was also preceded in death by his brother, Blaine Thompson and his sister, Norma Blevins.

Leon loved his family and friends. His interest involved Virginia Tech Football, his West Virginia farm place and guns. He gave his heart to Jesus on June 22, 2013. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Thompson served his country for four years in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Princeton High School “Class of 1958”. He retired from Virginia Tech after twenty seven years of service. Leon is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Vicki Thompson, of Middletown, Del.; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Allie, of Greensboro, N.C.; sister, Ramona Wall, of Temperance, Mich.; brother-in-law, Carl Blevins, of Bluefield, W.Va.; stepson, Roy Dean McGlothlin, of North Carolina; special niece, Debbie Thompson Boyd, of Bassett; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Karl Ljunggren, Austin, Texas. Also surviving are many other nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Faith Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at noon, with Pastor Mike Vest and the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Faith Missionary Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 475 Clearview Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
