Woods, Craig William
Craig William “Clyde” Woods, 54, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully into Glory on Monday, June 24, 2013 at his home. He was born in Baltimore, Md. on March 16, 1959. Craig was a retired Army veteran and worked for the Salvation Army and Federal Express.
During his military tour of duty he was able to witness the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. He was a graduate of Giles High School and attended Christopher Newport College. He was an avid sports fan and loved Giles High School athletics and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur W. and Louisa V. T. Sagel, of Baltimore, Md., and Buford W. and Yholande M. Woods, of Pearisburg; as well as his father, James E. Woods, of Pembroke. He is survived by his mother, Sylvia S. Woods, of Pembroke; his brother, Curtis M. Woods and Elaine “Lanie” Golusky, of Elliston; brother, Christopher E. and Irma Woods and stepdaughter, Kirsten, of Lynchburg; his son, Vincent M. Rhode, of Berlin, Germany; his aunt, Beverly W. and Ed Ballard, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his uncle, W. Beverly “Fletch” and Ruth Fletcher, of Oak Hall; his cousins, Cherron F. and Tom Davis, of Accomack, Keith Giles, of Jasper, Ga., and John Giles, of Zephyrhills, Fla. Clyde wanted to take this opportunity to thank his many friends who made his life special. A special thank you also goes out to the staff at the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Giles County Hospice. Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin with the Rev. Gary Alexander officiating and military honors by the National Guard, American Legion Posts and VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society . The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of arrangements.
