Spradlin, Elna May

Elna May Spradlin, 92, of Floyd County, and formerly Bedford County, died on June 10, 2013. Born near Stewartsville on January 16, 1921, she was preceded in death by her parents, Lester M. and Mabel Ferguson Spradlin; her brothers and their wives, Clifton and Nina Spradlin, C.W. and Louise Spradlin, Marvin and Estelle Spradlin, and Fred and Edith Spradlin.

She is survived by her twin sister, Edna S. Overstreet; nieces; nephews; and other relatives. After graduation from Stewartsville High School in 1938, she received her B.S. degree from Radford College in 1942. Then she earned her M.A. degree from Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn. In 1981, after teaching 39 years in Charlottesville Public Schools at Lane High School, she retired, moved to Bedford County, and later Floyd County. A devoted member of Mays Memorial Methodist Church, she taught an adult Sunday School Class and served as church treasurer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mays Memorial Methodist Church, 1121 Oddfellows Road, Vinton, VA 24179. A memorial service will be held at Mays Memorial Methodist Church at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2013. The Rev. Woodie Stovall and the Rev. Mickey White will preside.
