Fisher, Herman Jackson

Herman Jackson Fisher, 79, of Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday night, May 22, 2013, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center with his family by his side. Mr. Fisher was born on October 31, 1933, in Giles County, and was a son of the late Frank Harrison Fisher Jr. and Stella Gertrude Fisher. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond (Pete), Haven, Estelle, June and Brice Fisher; and two sisters, Lucille Fisher Johnson and Louise Fisher Woods. Mr. Fisher was a Korean War Veteran, a former member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church and was a retired Route Salesman (Milkman) for Sealtest Dairy in Dublin with over 20 years service. Herman was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking for his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by three daughters, Teresa F. Vaught and husband, David, of Rich Creek, Shelia F. Martin, of Montgomery County, and Erin R. Fisher and her lifelong companion, Katie Minnich, of Radford; two sons, Randy Fisher, of Pearisburg, and Tim A. Fisher and wife, Ann H., of Narrows; two brothers, Lewis (Sonny) Fisher and wife, Evelyn, of Virginia Beach, and Basil Fisher and wife, Hermina, of New Orleans, La.; and nine grandchildren. He was especially close to his four grandchildren, Cody and Reily Fisher, Hunter Thorne and Emily Lowery. He looked forward to their frequent visits, watching the boys grow up and Emily learning to talk and walk. Herman took a lot of pride in his best friend and caregiver, his youngest daughter, Erin. A special thanks to Linda Fisher for being there for him in the past years and to all of the nurses in Critical Care unit at NRV Medical Center in Radford, especially Angie Sutphin and Melissa Belickovic, for their kind and compassionate gestures. Special thanks to India Stebar, Heather Mullins, Trevor Lyon and Amy Greer for being there for the family in the past week. Herman had a special niece, Ann Price, that gave him much comfort and support. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to assist with funeral arrangements. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
