Carpenter, Russell Eugene

Russell Eugene Carpenter, 78, of Barren Springs, passed away Friday morning, May 17, 2013, at Wheatland Hills. Radford. Born in Wythe County July 22, 1934, he was the son of the late Elmer and Oakie Pickett Carpenter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lee Carpenter and his sister, Ollie Carpenter Moses. Russ retired from the Navy after serving for thirty years. He is survived by a brother, Sam Carpenter, of Barron Springs; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday May 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1184, The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
