Goodyear, Janice Claire

Janice Claire Goodyear, 80, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Arrangements by McCoy FuneralJanice Claire Goodyear, a resident of Blacksburg for the past 28 years, passed at the age of 80 at Warm Hearth Village from complications of Alzheimer’s. Being a Registered Physical Therapist, she cared for patients throughout the New River Valley area for 15 years until retiring in 1999.  Janice was born December 14, 1932, in Paterson, N.J., daughter of Andrew and Marion Smetana. She married David C. Goodyear in 1959 at St. Pauls Church, Clifton, N.J. She earned full scholarships and graduated from Caldwell College, N.J., and Duke University, N.C. She is survived by her husband, David Goodyear; son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Veronica Goodyear; daughter, Megan Goodyear Blatz; son, Eric Goodyear; and grandchildren, Sarah Shockley and Jack Blatz, all of Christiansburg. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Marilyn Smetana, of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., and their six children. Janice will always be remembered as a loving and compassionate person who would help anyone in need. A memorial service will be held at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg, 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, with Father Remi Sojka officiating. Home, Blacksburg, 540-552-3211.
