balarzs lois pruettLois Pruett Balarzs, 85, of Narrows, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born in Narrows October 16, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Allen David and Ruth Ethel Duncan Pruett. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bela (Bill) Balarzs; two sisters, Juanita Clayborne and Jewel Maxine Candler; and a daughter-in-law, Ellen Spring Moore. Lois was a lifelong member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows with 45 years of service. She is survived by three sons, William S. Balarzs, of Christiansburg, Arthur Brion Balarzs and wife, Undine, of Blacksburg, Paul D. Carper and wife Tracey, of Mechanicsville; four grandchildren, Paul Carper Jr., Susan Bruintjes, Kristen Booher, and Dina Balarzs; a great-granddaughter, Diana Bruintjes; a sister, Joyce P. St. Clair and husband, Charles, of Pembroke; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
