spradling pauline matneyPauline Matney Spradling, 94, of Christiansburg, formerly of Floyd, died peacefully in Blacksburg on Monday, November 26, 2012. She was born August 6, 1918, in Radford, the daughter of Maiden and Thelma Matney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Reverend Ralph M. Spradling; andtwo brothers, Dennis Matney and Hubert Matney. Pauline and Ralph were longtime members of Topeco and Fairview Churches in Floyd. They dearly loved their church families. She was a loving mother, and is survived by her four children and spouses, Bobby and Bonnie Spradling, of Rocky Mount, Betty and David Manning, of Boones Mill, William (Billy) and Sandra Spradling, of Vinton, Rebecca and Jerry Hale, of Christiansburg; eight grandchildren, Angela Manning, Amy and Jeff Carter, Andrew and Kim Spradling, Jerry and Susan Foutz, Jeff and Lisa Foutz, Michelle and Tim Creasy., Kristen Hale Lewis and Gregory Lewis, and Erica Hale; and 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret Pugh, of Radford, and a sister-in-law, Shelby Matney of Roanoke. A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg. For their care during the last few months of her life, and to Mom’s favorite ” nurse and companion” , her granddaughter, Erica, who helped care for her until the end, and whom mom was so proud of and who will always be her “special little angel”. Funeral services will be conducted at Topeco Church of the Brethren, Floyd, with Bro. Mike Varner officiating, on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Topeco Cemetery.
