Merrix, William Douglas

William Douglas Merrix, 79, of Ripplemead, departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, November 6, 2012, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles County on May 8, 1933, he was a son of the late Edgar H. and Reba Hilton Merrix. He was a member of The Evangelistic Holiness Chapel in Pembroke, was retired from Klotz Stone Quarry in Ripplemead and Lionberger Construction Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Lee Merrix; his sisters, Tootsie Sadler and Peggy Merrix; and brothers, JC, EJ, and Bud Merrix. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 54 years, Naomi Sanders Merrix; his sons, David (Punk) Merrix, and Scott Merrix and wife, Melissa; his daughter, Drema Merrix; his daughter- in-law, Sharon Sifford Merrix, wife of the late Michael Merrix; his grandchildren, April, Cody, JD, Travis, Alisha, Corey, Chase, Isabelle, Sarah, James and Steven; his great- grandchildren, Bryce, Skylar, Logan, Lyndsey, Lacie, Courtney, Meya, Brodie, Addison, Karma and Tristen; and his sister and brother-in- law, Jean and Paul McCormick. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2012, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Merrell Hedrick officiating. Pastor Hedrick and his wife, Arlene, will minister in the funeral music as well. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, November 7, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m. The Kendall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
