Whitlock, Sidney A.

Sidney A. Whitlock, 84, of Stone Mountain, Ga., passed away February 17, 2007. Born January 23, 1923, and raised in Montgomery County, Va.

Sidney attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and was a retired examiner for the U.S. Social Security Administration, having served at SSA Headquarters in Woodlawn, Md. and the Regional Office in Atlanta, Ga. Sidney served in the U.S. Army from 1941 through 1946 with a tour of the European Theater during World War II.

One of ten children, Sidney is survived by one brother, four sisters, two sons, and a daughter, as well as 10 grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Bruce and Linda Whitlock, of Marriotsville, Md., Stephen and Rosemarie Whitlock, of Reston, Va., and Susan and Donie Fleming, of Bethlehem, Ga.; grandchildren, April Fleming Flood, Tina Yeganeh, Jenna Fleming, Donie Fleming, Jr., Caitlin Whitlock, Allison Whitlock, Mathew Whitlock, Carolina Whitlock, Lauren Fleming, and Michelle Whitlock; brother, Harry Whitlock, of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Jewel Whitlock, of Richmond, Va., Helen Funnell, of Fredricksburg, Va., Josephine Prentice, of Des Plains, Ill., Lucile Jones, of Hobbsville, N.C., and Dolly Whitlock, of Blacksburg, Va.; sisters-in-law, Dottie Whitlock, of Richmond, Va., Frances Houlieres, of Richmond, Va., and Nancy Woods, of Salem, Va.; and brother-in-law, William Morrissette, of Chester, Va.

Services will be held at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at 2 p.m., with Dr. Richard Long officiating. Sidney will be interred alongside his beloved wife, Wilma E. Whitlock (nee Morissett). The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions to the donor’s charity of choice in Sidney’s memory.
