On Sunday morning, September 23, 2012, we suddenly lost a much-loved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend when Kathleen LoJacono (Kat) Werner, 37, of Blacksburg, fulfilled God’s plans and purposes for her life and she was called home. We are shocked and saddened by how quickly she left us, but we celebrate the time that we had to enjoy her spunk, confidence, love for the Lord, intelligence, love for her husband of 13 years, Jeff, devotion to her children Bethany (11), Liam (8), Elise (3) and baby Micah (2 weeks), and her passion for helping others through breast cancer advocacy. A breast cancer survivor of almost seven years, Kat was a full-time wife and mother, but also a fierce warrior in the fight for a cure and the opportunity to provide hope for fellow cancer victims. She tirelessly and boldly showed love, compassion and understanding for so many through her work as a volunteer and board member of various organizations including Young Survival Coalition, American Cancer Society, National Institute of Health, the National Cancer Institute and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, among others. Kat was so proud of her kids and so happy to celebrate the arrival of Micah on Septembe 14, 2012. She spent her last week marveling at the miracle of his birth and the Lord’s gift of life to the family. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, a graduate of William & Mary, an artistic soap maker and a collector of Starbucks mugs from cities all over the world! She had a quick wit, a fantastic laugh and was incredible at solving problems. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her husband and children and by her extended family, her parents, Jim and Anne LoJacono; mother-in-law, Sue Werner; sister and brother-in-law, Lara and Rusty Galbreath; brother, Father Joseph LoJacono; brother and sister-in-law, Matt & Mollie LoJacono; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lauren and DeWayne Storie; sister-in-law, Stefanie Werner; and by all her nieces and nephews. She was recently preceded in death by her father-in-law, Walt Werner. Her life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at memorial service at the Bridge Foursquare Church, 900 Life Drive, Christiansburg, with a visitation with the family before the service from noon to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Memorials funds established at the Bridge Foursquare Church and Living Word Ministries or donations in her honor to Young Survivor’s Coalition.
