Blankenship, Janice Rose (Rook)

Janice Rose (Rook) Blankenship, 79, of Glen Lyn, left her beloved family on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born at Elgood, West Virginia on April 15, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Charles Connie and Mary Wilson Holdren Blankenship. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Arberdeen Blankenship; four brothers, Bill, Tom, Joe and Bob; and five sisters, Danise, Zelma, Helen, Zora and Blackie. Rook loved gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and being with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Danny L. Clemons of Glen Lyn; three stepdaughters, Pamela Allard of Virginia Beach, Paula Taylor of Glen Lyn, and Penny Van Schoyck of Knotts Island, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great- great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Whitlow of Elgood and Joyce Hill of Glen Lyn; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and many special friends. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Chapel Wednesday from noon until just prior to the service.
