Mabel Ruth Conner, 93, of Shawsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Richfield Recovery Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Conner. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Sue Farris and Mildred (Millie) Hall (Wes), from Salem; son, Joseph Conner, of Roanoke; grandson, Anthony Farris (Maggie), of Salem; three stepgreat-granddaughters; sister, Thalia Linkous, of Shawsville; and sister-in-laws, Ethel Smith, of Shawsville, and Frances Smith, of Orange, Va. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. She was affectionately known as “Tootie” to her family. She will be remembered as a loving Christian mother and friend that loved everyone. She was employed by Montgomery County School system for over 20 years and at Camp Alta Mons for 25 years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 30, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012, at Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dan Carawan officiating. Interment will follow at Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville.
