Boffman, Alvin Tyree
Alvin Tyree Boffman, of Shawsville, went on to be with our heavenly father on August 25, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a long battle with his health. He and his twin brother, Amos Boffman Jr. were born on July 4, 1933, in Riner. He was the third of nine children born to the union of Amos Boffman Sr. and Mary Boffman. He was a graduate of the class of 1953, at Christiansburg Institute in Cambria. After graduation, he was drafted in the United States Army and served his county during the Korean War. He earned the designation of sharpshooter, and was a police firearms instructor for several years. He migrated to Chicago, Ill. where he met and married DeLois Armstrong on February 27, 1967, and to that union was born one daughter, Christina Elizabeth. He served as a Federal Police Officer for the General Service Administration for 20 years before retiring in 1986. He became a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, where he actively served on the food pantry and church security. He moved back to Virginia in 1991, and was an active member and faithful steward of the Shawsville Baptist Church. In his leisure, he enjoyed classic cars, gardening, flea markets and auctions, tinkering in his garage, and creating many innovations throughout his home. He enjoyed helping others in need, whether family, friends, or strangers. He is predeceased by his wife, DeLois Boffman, his father, Amos Boffman Sr.; his mother, Mary Boffman; his sisters, Annabelle DeHart and Geraldine Boffman. He will be mourned by his daughter, Christina Boffman; his brother, James Richard (Jerdleen) Boffman, his sisters, Rosa Queen, Yvonne Guy, Dessie (Gregory) Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will take place at noon on Friday, August 31, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Elliston. Professional services entrusted to Penn’s Funeral Home, Pulaski.
