Harriman, Elsie Anna McGuire

Elsie Anna McGuire Harriman, 81, passed away August 23, 2012. A native of Radford, Virginia, she was born October 9, 1930 to the late William C. and Millie Shephard McGuire. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ronald Edward Harriman; son Richard Edward Harriman and wife Chau Kim Phung Harriman of Virginia Beach, Va. and Saigon, Vietnam; one daughter, Anne Kathryn Harriman of Virginia Beach, two adopted daughters, Joie Horton of Dublin, and Debi Harding of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Khanh and Quan Vo of Saigon, (Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam, and Addie and Bailey Morgan of Dublin; two sister-in-laws, Evelyn Harriman of Winchester, and Margie McGuire of Rocky Mount; and best friend, Delores Richardson of Chesapeake; seven nephews and three nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, CL and Mason McGuire. She attended Radford University and retired from GMAC after 30 years. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, Fellowship Sunday school class. She was a devout quilter, teaching quilting and making quilts for family and friends. One of her favorite projects was creating quilts for the Quilts of Valor organization, which provides quilts to military service members wounded in wars. She was one of the founders of the Night Chapter of the Tidewater Quilters Guild, 1981 and founder and past president of the Virginia Consortium of Quilters, (VCQ) 1984. For 23 years, Elsie and Ronald hosted in their home the Homestead Neighborhood Christmas for the children of the neighborhood. She will be remembered for her welcoming way and that she never met a stranger. She will be missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to Community United Methodist Church 1672 Old Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23464. A funeral service was held Tuesday at Community United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be held Thursday August 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin with the Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home in Pulaski.
