Starkey, Mary Alice
God called his daughter, Mary Alice Starkey, of Elliston, to rest in his arms on Monday, August 20, 2012, at 11 p.m. at her home. Sister Mary Alice was a loyal member of the Elliston Church of God for more than 60 years. She served as Adult Sunday School teacher for 50 years. She was the Clerk and Women’s Minister of the church and was an outstanding leader that people looked up to for leadership and guidance in God’s Word. She served her family as a mother figure, not only in the church world but also for her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Rene Witt; her husband, Nelson Starkey; one sister; four brothers; and son-in-law, the Rev. Hugh Crews. She is survived by her daughters, Edna Crews, and Claudine Pettus and husband, Kenneth; a son, Nelson Lynwood Starkey and wife, Rita; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elliston Church of God, Elliston, Va. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Elliston Church of God with Pastor Wayne Powell and the Rev. Ralph Parker officiating.
