Akers, Marvin Lee (Gene)

Marvin Lee (Gene) Akers, 66, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Saturday August 18, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born on February 10, 1946. He is preceded in death by his father, Marvin J. Akers and brother, Cecil (Buddy) Jones. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 46 years, Mary Y. Akers. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Lisa and Bruce Altis, of Shawsville, Tammy and Paul Hester, of Christiansburg and Robbie and Mandy Akers, of Christiansburg; his grandchildren and spouses Adam and Andrea Altis, Brandi and Greg Rettig, Noah Akers, Alliyah Akers, Abigail Hester and great-grandchildren, Brandon Rettig, Tristan Smith, Kaycen Rettig and Wyatt Altis. He is also survived by his Mother Beulah Akers, of Elliston and his brother, Jerry Akers, of Christiansburg. The family will receive family and friends on Monday August 20, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Open Door Baptist Church, Christiansburg, conducted by Pastor Mike Johnston and the Rev.
