Shepherd, Ballard Matthew

The Rev. Ballard Matthew Shepherd, 91, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 18, 2012. He was born on June 21, 1920, to Frank H. and Katie (Barker) Shepherd. The Rev. Shepherd served in the military in the Army division of World War II for three and a half years. He pastored numerous churches in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. He was a minister for 60 years, and many souls have been blessed by his ministry. The Rev. Shepherd is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mayo G. Shepherd; beloved daughters, Rosemary Shepherd Wilcher and husband, Larry, of New Mexico, Alma Jean Shepherd, of Christiansburg; beloved sons, David Shepherd and wife, Joann, of Shawsville, Ron Shepherd and Mary, of Florida, Roger Shepherd and wife, Teresa, of North Carolina, and Tim Shepherd and wife, Pam, of New Mexico. He had 14 cherished grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Home Going Celebration services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Kingrea and the Rev. Jerry Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Shawsville Congregational Holiness Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Horne Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mayo G.
