Lambert, Margaret Williams

Margaret Williams Lambert died on June 15, 2012 at the Wybe and Marietje Kroontje Center of Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, Va. Margaret was born in Roanoke on January 17, 1927, to Cyrus Lamen Williams and Goldie Beckett Williams. She joined older brother James. During the Depression, the family moved from the city to a small farm by the Roanoke River. An excellent student, Margaret graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1945. Training at Roanoke Memorial Hospital to become a registered nurse, she met Andrew Jackson Lambert, a World War II veteran and agricultural engineering undergraduate attending Virginia Tech on the G.I. bill. They married on December 18, 1948, a marriage lasting until Andy’s death in October 2000. Margaret worked in various medical settings throughout her life. Patients who were morbidly ill remarked upon the way in which her gentleness and kindness eased their pain. Margaret is survived by three children, eight grand children, and two great grand children.
