Turner, William Jerald

William Jerald Turner, 84, of Narrows, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA, after a long illness. Bill was a lifelong resident of Giles County and made his home in the Wolf Creek area of the county. He will be remembered for his many passions from officiating football games on Friday night, to his love of farming and bee keeping. Bill had many talents from mechanics to gardening, and his family will be left with countless reasons to cherish his memory. As one of his friends remarked, “Bill was one of the hardest working men I ever knew.” He was a graduate of Narrows High School and an active member of the American Legion. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Narrows and a retiree from the Celanese Corporation. He was the son of the late John Waitman Turner and Myrtle Ferguson Havens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Becky French Turner; a daughter, Trudy Huffman; and a son, William Jerald Turner, Jr.; two brothers, Gomer and Hampton Turner; a sister, Inez Patton; and a half-brother, Rodney Havens. Bill is survived by his son, Joe Turner, and his wife, Sharon; his second wife, Billie Sue Turner and her son, Greg White; three sisters, Anna Lou Blankenship, Jacqueline Creger, and Francis Bowles; three grandchildren, Jerry Huffman, Jr., and his wife, Amy, Heather Shepherd and her husband Jerry, and Billy Turner and his wife, Stacy. He was blessed with six great-grandchildren and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16th, 2012, at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Christopher J. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the French-Turner Cemetery in the Wolf Creek community near Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M.
