Childress, Margaret Brown
Margaret Mahood Brown Childress, 81, of Christiansburg, passed away peacefully at her home on May 29, 2012. At her side was her loving husband of 61 years, Floyd S. Childress Jr. Margaret was the daughter of the late Reverend James Herbert Brown Jr. and Margaret Mahood Brown. Mrs. Childress is survived by her husband, her daughter Julia Childress Emerson of Seattle, and her three sons, Thomas M. Childress, of Waynesboro, Charles B. Childress and Floyd S. Childress III, both of Christiansburg. She is survived by eight grandchildren; and sisters, Jane Brown Landers and Julia Brown Poling. Margaret was active in the community having served on the Board of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. She was chair of the building committee for the Christiansburg Branch of the Regional Library. Margaret also served as a volunteer at Montgomery Regional Hospital for 25 years. Margaret was an avid reader and world traveler. She possessed a lifelong love of classical music and opera. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, June 2, 2012, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary before the memorial service from 11 a.m. until noon. The family would like to thank caregivers, Sharon Leatham and Dana Ramsey. We also wish to express our gratitude to Dr. Michael Payne and God Samaritan Hospice.
