Hughes, Janatta Irene

Janatta Irene (Rissie) Hughes, 83 of Narrows went home to be with her Savior on Monday, January 15th, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on January 18th, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Otha Levi and Flora Kathleen Wall Conley. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayburn Wilson Hughes; a daughter, Vallery Mullins; a granddaughter, Melissa Breeding; a sister, Elizabeth Bivens; two brothers, Ervin and Henry Conley; and two sons-in-law, J.W. Perdue and Ray Blankenship.

She was a faithful member of East Chapel Community Church, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends from along Wolf Creek.

She is survived by two sons, Doug and Mary Hughes, Joe and Tena Hughes; two daughters, Flora Perdue and Patty Blankenship, all of Narrows; twelve grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Lorene Blankenship and Catherine Orey, both of Narrows; a son-in-law, Jimmy Mullins; and two very special friends who visited her often, Penky Wall and Sandra Stafford.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 17th, 2007 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. Tim Lacy officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Tuesday from 6-8 PM.
