Weiss, Helen Faye
Helen Faye Weiss, 84, of Draper, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday at 7:15 a.m. She lived a full life, and leaves behind not only her family, but many friends throughout the mountains of Southwest Virginia. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She was born in Roanoke on July 13, 1927, to Harry M. Thompson and Addie Bell Smart Thompson. She grew up in South Roanoke with her Grandmother, Sally Pruitt, where they all worked the Dan River Mills. Later she moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she was a contractor. She spent most of her free time sewing skirts, with a collection of shoes and pocket books. Later when her father, Harry M. Thompson, passed away, she came home to Jeters Chapel Mountain, where she lived for many years farming, logging, etc. She is survived by her children, Westly M., Rachel, and Roderick Boothe; Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren;and her only brother, the Rev. H. R. Thompson and family. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Blueridge Baptist Church, 2410 Hardy Road, Vinton, with the Rev. Larry Lamberth and the Rev. Tommy Hurt officiating.
